How to play older games on Windows 7 without feeling culturally enriched If anyone liked "Escape From the Pit" I'd highly recommend Avernum 6 as they are essentially the same engine and play the same, the only difference being that Avernum 6 has the more complicated, older, point based skill and stat system (as opposed to "Escape From the Pit's" more simplified skill trees). Plus, Vogel pulled back a bit from the insane hitpoint bloat of Avernum 5. It's much more open world than Avernums 4 and 5 and actually has an interesting plot (it's set in a kingdom in decline, so it's all about famine and terrorism). Plus, no plot beyond just "Kill the Bad Guy!"Īvernum 6 is actually pretty good, though. It's entirely linear and has perhaps the worst case of trash mob-itis and hit point bloat of any RPG I've ever played.
